Understanding your quote breakdown

Quotes & Booking
3 min read Updated August 2026

A ZargoLogix quote is itemised so you can see exactly what you're paying for — there are no rates presented as a single opaque number.

Typical line items

  • Freight charge — the base cost of moving your cargo on the selected mode, calculated from actual or chargeable (volumetric) weight, whichever is greater.
  • Fuel / BAF surcharge — a variable surcharge tied to current fuel costs, standard across the freight industry and adjusted periodically by carriers.
  • Origin / destination handling — terminal handling, documentation, and local charges at each end.
  • Customs brokerage — if you've asked us to handle clearance, this covers declaration filing and broker fees (duties and taxes themselves are billed separately, at cost, unless you've asked for a duty estimate to be pre-paid).
  • Optional services — cargo insurance, special packaging, temperature-controlled handling, or expedited service, only if selected.

Chargeable weight

For air freight in particular, you're charged on whichever is greater: the actual weight of your cargo, or its volumetric (dimensional) weight — calculated from the size of the shipment. This is standard industry practice and reflects that light, bulky cargo takes up capacity regardless of how little it weighs.

Every quote has a stated validity window (typically 7–14 days, longer for contracted volumes). Rates can move with fuel prices and carrier capacity, so a quote requested today isn't guaranteed to match a quote requested next month for the same lane.
